About the archives

The catalogue of archives contains information about the historic records of Northamptonshire and the Diocese of Peterborough, both of which are held at the Northamptonshire Record Office. The records currently represented are rich in variety, ranging from parish collections to small businesses and pictorial collections.

How to view the records

Please note that records that contain personal information and are less than 100 years old may have restricted access, and therefore cannot be viewed. These records include, for example, school and hospital records. It is advisable to contact the Archives Service before travelling if you wish to view documents in this category.

Alternatively, you can search the online catalogue. However, the catalogue only searches for the exact term that is entered, so when researching a person, for example, you will need to search separately for all possible spellings of their name.
