Historic parks and gardens

There are 33 registered historic parks and gardens in Northamptonshire. Other than Wicksteed Park, all the parks and gardens are part of country houses.

The ‘Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England’ was set up in 1983 and is managed by Historic England. The Register identifies sites of significance. In Northamptonshire, the listed gardens are nationally important because they reflect the landscaping fashions of their day. The register also aims to protect the sites from damage and destruction.

You can read more about the Register on the Historic England website or learn more about planning and the historic environment in our Expert advice section.
